Founder of Jingdong, Richard Liu founded the company as a simple storefront in 1998. With much success the business went from one store to 12 by 2003. By the next year the growth of e-commerce made it possible to find further growth for his business on the internet.
Understanding that potential customers in Chinese rural areas would have a tough time getting his products, Liu took it upon himself to create over 3000 pick-up stations in two-thirds of all Chinese counties. This idea was later adopted by Amazon to use in the US. Liu deals directly with the manufacturers and then sells the products to customers, this helps to insure the quality of the product and take responsibility for it getting into the right hands. Due to Richard Liu’s dedication to his company, he has won numerous awards and changed the face of e-commerce for the better.
